Dr. Ikukumbuta Mwandawande is an experienced Zambian geologist and Environmental Specialist
with many years of work experience in mining geology, mineral exploration, environmental
management, and university lecturing.
He is a graduate of the University of Zambia with a Bachelor of Mineral Sciences (B.Min.Sc)
Degree in Geology. In addition, Dr. Mwandawande has a Master’s Degree in Environmental
Engineering and Sustainable Infrastructure from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in
Sweden and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Stellenbosch University in South Africa.
He has therefore acquired a broad range of skills and knowledge in geology, environmental
management and numerical modelling of metallurgical processes using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
In the environmental field, Dr. Mwandawande’s work experience includes both local and international
involvement in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Auditing, Environmental Baseline Studies
and Environmental Scoping Studies with particular focus on mineral exploration and mining projects.
He is currently working with Misenge Environmental and Technical Services limited (METS) as
Environment and Radiation Safety Specialist. He has also worked as a lecturer in Environmental
Engineering at the Copperbelt University and as Senior Lecturer and Head of the Environment
and Tourism Department at Livingstone International University of Tourism Excellence and Business
Management (LIUTEBM). Dr. Mwandawande is also up to date with recent developments and trends in
Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) which is currently a big topic in the mining industry worldwide.
In the Geology field, Dr. Mwandawande has experience in different geological settings including
sediment hosted copper deposits of the Zambian Copperbelt, sandstone hosted uranium deposits in
the Zambian Karoo Basin, magmatic nickel sulphide deposits in the Zambezi belt and hydrothermal
gold deposits in different parts of the country. He has worked as a Senior Technical Advisor in
Geology, Environment and Mineral Processing at PEXA Mineral Services Limited, Production Geologist
at Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) and as Exploration Geologist at Albidon Zambia Ltd and African Energy
Resources Limited. He has acquired skills in relevant computer software packages including ArcGIS,
QGIS, and Google Earth Pro. He also has good knowledge of mining software including GEOVIA Surpac,
Leapfrog and Datamine Studio RM.
